FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Sen. Mitch McConnell's campaign says he'll be getting some high-profile help for his GOP re-election bid from Mitt Romney. Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, is expected to visit Lexington on Oct. 2 as the race intensifies against McConnell's rival, Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A former U.S. secretary of state from the Clinton era, Madeleine Albright, has endorsed Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes in her race against Sen. Mitch McConnell. Albright became the first woman secretary of state when former President Bill Clinton appointed her in 1997.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The top elected official in a Kentucky county devastated by a 2012 tornado has pleaded guilty to a single federal mail fraud charge. Authorities say Morgan County Judge-Executive Tim Conley pleaded guilty Tuesday in connection with a scheme to steer work to a construction contractor in exchange for hefty kickbacks.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The head of the Kentucky State Police and a lieutenant colonel in the agency have returned home after a two-day, 30-mile hike at the Grand Canyon - all to honor troopers who died in the line of duty. State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer and his colleague used vacation time for the trip last weekend and paid their own expenses.
