OAK GROVE, Ky. (AP) - An interstate welcome center in southern Kentucky near the Tennessee line will reopen today and remain open until after the Memorial Day holiday. The welcome center is for westbound Interstate 24 travelers and is near Oak Grove in Christian County and Fort Campbell.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Compensation for the head of the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources would be capped at $218,000 for the next year under a contract expected to be reviewed by the state Legislature's Government Contract Review Committee next month. The contract sets the salary of Wildlife Commissioner Jon Gassett at $134,000 and adds $53,000 in benefits, pushing total compensation to $187,000.

ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) - A wreck on an Ashland bridge has prompted the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to impose a temporary 10-ton weight limit on the span. The cabinet says the wreck damaged part of the 12th Street bridge's superstructure and occurred as the bridge was hit by a vehicle on the Ohio approach span.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A magazine says Kentucky is No. 1 when it comes to whitetail deer hunting.

The latest issue of Outdoor Life ranks the Bluegrass State as the top whitetail trophy state in the country.
