FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Rand Paul is planning to address the National Urban League's annual convention on Friday. The Kentucky Republican is expected to tout his proposals to restore voting rights to some convicted felons.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes has won endorsement from the United Auto Workers in her campaign to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in the fall. Mark Dowell, head of the Kentucky UAW's political arm, says Grimes would be a "strong voice" for working Kentuckians if she stops McConnell from winning a sixth term.

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - The Mine Safety and Health Administration says inspectors issued 186 citations at 13 U.S. mining operations in June around the country. Eleven of those mines were coal operations, while the others were metal and nonmetal.

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A southwestern Kentucky man has pleaded not guilty to shooting someone after an argument and leaving the man in the street in Hopkinsville. Reports say 21-year-old Brandon D. Smith entered the plea Wednesday in Christian County Circuit Court, where he's charged with the fatal shooting of Keon Grant on May 14.
