Mom Charged after 4-Year-Old Hit by Car in Kanawha County

KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) - UPDATE (3/13/18 11:10 AM):

The South Charleston Police Department say that upon further investigation into the events that led to a four-year-old boy being struck by a vehicle on Wednesday, March 7th, 2018, the child's mother has been arrested.

Emily Jordan Johnson, 31, of South Charleston,  has been charged with child neglect resulting in injury.

Johnson was arrested on Friday, March 9th, 2018 and arraigned by Kanawha County Magistrate Brent Hall who placed Johnson on $10,000.00 or 10% cash bond.

The boy is recuperating in the care of other family members as West Virginia Department Health and Human Resources and Child Protective Services continues to investigate.



Dispatcher say a 4-year-old child has been transported to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Kanawha County.

The incident took place at around 6:45 a.m. on Chestnut Street at Eagle Way in South Charleston.

South Charleston Police say that it appears the juvenile was with an adult at Par Mar stores at the corner of Kanawha Turnpike and Chestnut Street, when the child ran toward Eagle Way and into traffic, where he was struck by a vehicle 

According to witnesses, the driver of the vehicle has no time to react.

The child was transported to CAMC General, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the child was cooperative and remained on scene. The driver is not charged in connection with the incident.

South Charleston Police, South Charleston Fire, and Kanawha County EMS responded to the scene.
