Fayette County Couple Arrested for Child Endangerment, Heroin Possession

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOWK) - A Fayette County couple has been arrested for felony child endangerment.

Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a camper in Mount Hope this morning to attempt warrant service.  The arrest warrants were for Nicole Riser, 22, of Fayetteville and Brandon Clark, 21, of Mount Hope.

While executing the warrants, deputies found Riser's 3-year-old child in the camper sleeping on a pile of blankets. Deputies also found heroin and associated paraphernalia within easy reach of the child.

Riser and Clark were both taken into custody. Custody of the child was transferred to a grandparent.

Both subjects were charged with the felony offense of Gross Child Neglect Creating Risk of Injury, as well as Possession of Heroin. These are in addition to the pending misdemeanor warrants for Obstruction and Conspiracy.

Riser and Clark are in the Southern Regional Jail with a $10,000 bond. Child Protective Services was contacted to initiate their investigation.

"Doing drugs and harming yourself is one thing,  but exposing your baby to it is another," says Sheriff Fridley.  "It's not just the actual drugs that are dangerous for the kids, it's the lifestyle, atmosphere, and affiliations that are equally as bad.”

If you have any information regarding this incident or any other crimes, contact the Fayette County Sheriff's Department at 304-574-3590, through their Facebook page, or Crime Stoppers of West Virginia at 304-255-STOP.
