Man Flown To Hospital After Being Attacked With Axe

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. - Officials with the Logan County Sheriff's Department put out the following release after a man attacked his mother and her boyfriend with an axe and a shotgun.

Sheriff Sonya M Dingess Porter states that late yesterday evening Deputy Z. T. Lilly responded to Piney Fork Road of Harts on a domestic violence incident involving an axe and firearm. 

When Deputy Lilly arrived on scene he spoke to the victims, Kathy Stollings and Robin Wilson. The victims stated to Lilly that Ms. Stollings’ boyfriend, Russell Davidson, had been hit with an axe in the right forearm by her son, Shawn Combs.  Mr. Davidson received a severe laceration and needed immediate medical care. 

The victims further advised Deputy Lilly that Combs had been drinking and started being belligerent and breaking things inside the house. The victims stated that they were inside the laundry room and Davidson was trying to keep Combs from entering the room when he struck Davidson in the arm with an axe. 

The victims stated that Combs then entered Mrs Stollings and Mr. Davidson’s bedroom and produced a .410 shotgun. They stated that once they realized that Combs had a weapon, they wrestled Combs to get the gun away from him.  Mr. Combs fired the weapon hitting the laundry room wall. They were able to get the gun from him.  Mr. Combs fled from the scene in a Toyota truck prior to deputies arrival.   Mr. Davidson was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center and the flown by Air Evac to CAMC for treatment.  

Upon further investigation Deputy found that Combs had a prior felony conviction for unlawful assault. Deputy Lilly received a tip on the whereabouts of Combs and was able to located him. 

Shawn Dovavin Combs, age 31 of Harts, was arrested for Attempted Murder, three counts of Wanton Endangerment, Domestic Battery, and Person Prohibited with a Firearm. 

Combs is currently incarcerated in the Southwestern Regional Jail waiting arraignment.
