4th Escaped Inmate from Boyd County Detention Center Captured

BOYD COUNTY, KY (WOWK) - UPDATE: 1/17/2018 @ 3:00 p.m.

The fourth inmate who escaped from the Boyd County Detention Center has been captured

According to Ashland Police, Thomas J. Bentley, was captured a short foot pursuit on Armco Boulevard.

Russell Police provided a tip that Bentley was dropped off in the area of Hoods Creek Pike.

Ashland Police Officers and Boyd County Sheriff's Deputies were able to capture him in a wooded area just off of Armco Boulevard. 


UPDATE: 1/7/2018 @ 12:30 p.m.

According to Catlettsburg Police, Austin Childers has been captured.

Childers was captured Sunday morning, and was taken to the Greenup County Detention Center.

The fourth escapee, Thomas Bentley, remains on the run.

We will update with the latest information as it becomes available.


UPDATE: 1/3/18 @ 5:45 p.m.

Catlettsburg Police tell 13 News that a second escaped inmate from the Boyd County Detention Center has been apprehended.

Catlettsburg Police say that Joseph Salyers has been captured this afternoon.

Salyers, along with Austin Childers, Thomas Bentley, and Isaiah Bare escaped the jail last Thursday.

Bare was apprehended late last week.

Austin Childers and Thomas Bentley remain on the run tonight.

Catlettsburg Police, Kentucky State Police, and the Ashland Police Department assisted in the capture.


UPDATE:12/28/17 @ 4:10 p.m.

Deputies with the Boyd County Sheriff's Department say that Isaiah Bare has been apprehended.

Bare was apprehended in the Westwood area of Boyd County just before 4 p.m.

County judge executive Steve Towler tells 13 News the inmates crawled through a chase in the HVAC system and made their way to the roof.

According to Boyd County Sheriff Bobby Jack Woods, police are searching for four escaped inmates from the Boyd County Detention Center.

Austin Childers, Thomas Bentley, Isaiah Bare and Joseph Salyers' escape was reported around 9 a.m. Thursday.

No word on when they escaped, just that it happened overnight.
