Air conditioning problems prompt Riverside High School to close early Wednesday

Students at Riverside High School went home early Wednesday because the school's air conditioning system was not working properly.

Classes dismissed at 11 Wednesday morning. Students said the classrooms were hot and humid.

According the Kanawha County Board of Education all of the air conditioning units are currently running at Riverside but not at full capacity.

The school board said the contractor has ordered supplies so they can get started but it will not be an overnight repair.

The school has struggled with heating and air conditioning problems for several years.

The situation has left many students, parents and school staff feeling frustrated.

School leadership will assess the situation Wednesday evening and first thing in the morning to make a determination about classes for Thursday.
