Dozens of students participate in Forest Fun Day in Kanawha County, WV

KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) - Children in our area learned about nature Thursday by going outside and using their senses.

From touching snakes to watching fish swim in a huge mobile tank fifth graders from Kanawha County had a unique day filled with new lessons.

They were participating in Forest Fun Day at Kanawha State Forest.

Two hundred students from four different elementary schools engaged in hands on lessons about conservation, wildlife and more.

"You can read about stuff and watch videos on it but when you actually touch a snake and see it live or a fish it is just a totally different experience for them," explained Tomi Bergstrom, WVDEP Project WET Coordinator.

Several members of the community volunteered to help with Forest Fun Day.

A local family donated the funding to cover the expenses to host the event.
