Logan County Schools Closed Tomorrow Due to Teacher Walkout

LOGAN COUNTY, WV (WOWK) - Logan County Schools say they are closing tomorrow "due to an illegal, unauthorized employee walkout(work(stoppage)."

Patricia Lucas, the Superintendent of Logan County Schools, issued the following statement:

"Logan County Schools had placed the comment on the WVDE school closing site stating the reason that we are closing schools on 2/2/18. The comment was from our county not WVDE.

The closure is due to what was reported to me today regarding the number of teachers that voted to participate in a one day walkout.  The number was 84% that voted to participate in the walkout."

The initial tweet with reason from Logan County Schools has now been deleted and new tweet sent out in its place.

The West Virginia Department of Education issued the following statement:

"The @WVSnowDay Twitter account is a bot that is set up to pull information entered by each county in regards to closings of any kind. This allows counties to efficiently get the word out to the public regarding closings and delays. The county offices access the form on the website and put in the details about the closure. Once submitted, a tweet is immediately posted."

We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
