WV Teachers Still at Capitol Day After Governor Announces Deal

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) - All of West Virginia public schools are scheduled to reopen tomorrow after five days of teacher walk-outs, but hundreds of teachers are still at the Capitol today.

Despite West Virginia Governor Jim justice proposing a five percent pay increase last night, teachers at the Capitol say they want a permanent fix to PEIA.

The proposal is under legislative scrutiny.

Senate President Mitch Carmichael says that this is a drastic change so late in the game that this will take a lot to sort out.

The Senate President was met with loud boos as he emerged before the crowd.

Teachers at the Capitol told West Virginia Tonight Anchor Dan Thorn that they are tired of broken promises and a permanent fix to PEIA is essential.

Governor Justice said tomorrow teachers are expected to be back in school, but protestors have threatened to come back tomorrow and Friday.
