One Dead After Stand-off in Johnson County, Cruisers Struck

JOHNSON COUNTY, KY (WOWK) - One man is dead after a stand-off in Johnson County, KY. 

According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, deputies and Kentucky State Police responded to a stand-off situation on Route 825 Monday evening at around 7 p.m. when someone was reported to be in their front yard acting suspiciously.

The man acting suspiciously, identified as 35-year-old Stephen Dalton, of Oil Springs, began arguing and trying to fight deputies when they responded to the scene. Deputies tased Dalton, but he was able to escape and barricade himself inside his residence.

According to deputies, Dalton fired shots randomly, and it was believed he had access to several firearms.

Dalton was pronounced dead at the scene.

At one point in time, he shot several Kentucky State Trooper vehicles. No injuries were reported as a result, and deputies fired back, but Dalton went back into his residence.

Kentucky State Police called in their Special Response Team for the safety of officers involved.

When the Special Response Team sent a robot into the home, they discovered that the suspect was dead.

"I realize that many in our community is weary and on high alert at this time," Sheriff Price said.

"Please rest assured, there is no danger to the public at large," Price added.
