Huntington Firefighter Dies After Head-On Crash

BARBOURSVILLE, WV (WOWK) - UPDATE:

A firefighter with the Huntington Fire Department died from injuries he sustained in a head-on crash this morning.

According to the City of Huntington, John Lambert, 27, of Ranger, WV, was a probationary firefighter. He had been with the Fire Department since September of 2017.

Lambert was not working at the time of the accident.

Mayor Steve Williams provided the following statement, “The hearts of the City of Huntington family are aching for the loss of firefighter John Lambert. We ask our community to please hold his family in your hearts and prayers.”

Fire Chief Jan Rader and Ray Canafax, president of International Association of Firefighters Local 289, provided the following joint statement:

“The Huntington Fire Department and International Association of Firefighters Local 289 are deeply saddened by the passing of our brother, John Lambert. He was a well-respected member with a bright future. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family during this time of sorrow.”

A road in Barboursville has reopened after a head-on crash.

According to dispatchers, the 3500 block of Cyrus Creek Road was shut down after a head-on crash.

The crash was reported just after 8 a.m.

Dispatchers say there is no word on injuries at this time.

The Cabell County Sheriff's Office, Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department, Ona Volunteer Fire Department, and Cabell County EMS responded to the scene.
