Flu Epidemic Causing Tamiflu Shortage

PIKEVILLE, KY (WOWK) - Stores have had issues keeping Tamiflu stocked as many across America have been diagnosed with the flu this season.

A pharmacist at Professional Pharmacy in Pikeville, Kentucky, Marietta Campoy, told CBS Affiliate WYMT that the supply of Tamiflu is low this year.

"It doesn't matter the amount we order," Campoy said. "We can only get a limited amount from the wholesaler."

Campoy told WYMT that they can only order four prescriptions of Tamiflu each day. However, that number changes on each day.

"The first round of the flu hit us pretty hard and we were running pretty short," Campoy said. "But we have stocked back up."

According to WYMT, Campoy says they ordering the maximum amount of Tamiflu each day. She expects another round of the flu to hit soon and hopes to be prepared.

"It seems as the kids go back to school, it is a breeding ground," Campoy says.

Officials say the shortage of Tamiflu is affecting pharmacies nation-wide.
