Kanawha County family's home topples with young children inside

A family with five children is staying in a hotel because their home is no longer safe. They lived through what they describe as a terrifying experience. It happened in the early morning hours Sunday as their mobile home crashed to the ground while they slept.

Adrian Woolwine and her husband Paul watched as their children romped around a playground. But they also carried the burden of wondering where their family will be sleeping in the days and weeks ahead.

Adrian said run off from the mountain appears to have caused the muddy ground to shift which sent their mobile home toppling.

"It was kind of like the world was caving in. The kids were screaming for us and I was screaming and everything was falling to one side," she explained.

The younger children were in the room with Adrian and Paul. But the two older children were trapped in another part of the house. She said had the little ones been in their room things could have been much worse.

"Dressers in their bedroom just ripped apart because they flipped completely over they slammed up against the back wall and that was the kids room so I am really glad that they weren't in there," she said choking back tears.

Now the family is left to answer the tough question of what next.

The family is staying in a hotel for now thanks to the help of the Red Cross and donations from the community.

"It is overwhelming and humbling," Adrian said.

But now they are worrying about the long term solutions to a situation they never expected to be living through.

"It took us a couple of years to get what we had up there," she said."So having to do all of this in a month or less is extremely frustrating."

The family is still working to figure out where they'll stay in the weeks ahead while they work out a permanent plan. They are also hoping for help paying to hire someone to see if their home can be repaired.

A family friend has created an account to help the family raise money to get back on their feet.
