Search intensifies for missing Ohio father of 4

Martins Ferry, Ohio (WTRF) - Police say, Joseph Herring, 37, left his home Tuesday, January 9.

They say his four children, all under the age of 13, were left with an adult in the household, and Herring walked out without saying anything.

He still has not been heard from.

Police say they pinged his cell phone, and they searched the wooded area where the phone was last known to be.

"With the help of the Martins Ferry Fire Department, the police department did a search of a kind of remote area where we figured there was a possibility he may be, or in the worst case scenario where he may have passed away," said Police Chief John McFarland. "But we weren't able to find anything."

The chief said there was some "family stress" going on that may have prompted Herring's departure.

The chief's message to Herring is to "go home or go to the police department and let someone know you are all right."

His message to the public is if anyone has seen this man or knows what happened to him, to please call police at (740) 633-2121.
