Victims of Gun Violence Honored with Candlelight Vigil

Community members gathered in Huntington for the vigil Thursday

HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) - Thursday evening, community members gathered in front of the Cabell County Courthouse to honor victims of gun violence. The St. John's Episcopal Church hosted the candlelight vigil but invited people from all backgrounds to attend.

"Gun violence effects people of every race, of every gender, of every economic status," said Lisa Graves, the Director and Priest of St. John's Episcopal Church. "This was a non-denomination non-political gathering of many people from around the community, people that we knew and people who are new to us that are united in purpose."

The vigil included singing, prayers and a bell toll for every mass shooting in America so far this year.

"When we come together as people of many faiths, many backgrounds,
we turn our hearts toward one purpose and that is almost always peace," said Graves.
