CHARLESTON -- All six defendants in the Logan County torture and abuse case are now charged with kidnapping, which is punishable by up to life in prison.
Prosecutors allege the suspects took turns guarding exits to the trailer and shed located on a piece of property in Big Creek and repeatedly threatened to kill Megan Williams if she tried to escape.
Each also faces at least one count of first degree sexual assault.
"Oh hell no! Uh uh," said Karen Burton as she was arraigned on Tuesday and was told of the sexual assault charge.
Prosecutors threw out the original charges against five of the six suspects Tuesday and replaced them with new ones.
Frankie Brewster's charges include giving false information and three counts of battery. Danny Combs, 20, faces three counts of first degree sexual assault as well as malicious wounding.
Karen Burton is also charged with malicious wounding in addition to assault during the commission of a felony and 13 counts of battery. Karen's daughter Alisha Burton could barely keep her composure during her arraignment. She faces 11 counts of battery and malicious wounding.
George Messer was charged with six counts of battery in addition to the kidnapping and sexual assault.
Bobby Brewster was the only defendant who's charges remained unchanged. He was already facing kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and sexual assault during the commission of a felony.
Williams went into the trailer home in Logan County on Aug. 2, according to court testimony heard on Tuesday.
Police originally said she had been held against her will in a Big Creek residence for a week. On Tuesday, they said she had been at the trailer for a least a month.
Law enforcement discovered Williams, 20, after police received a tip on Sept. 8. She had been stabbed, tortured, raped, choked and forced to eat animal feces, according to criminal complaints filed in the case.
During the hearing, prosecuting attorneys presented a fly swatter, a knife and a wooden stick. Lawyers told the court the suspects used the implements to beat Williams.
Each impliment had red and brown stains, but they will all be tested to determined what the material is.
Deputies also testified that Williams went willingly to the home, but the suspects would later refuse to let her leave.
The victim's most severe injuries include a fractured arm and a deep stab wound on her leg. The victim's identity is known because Williams’ mother agreed to speak to media about her daughter’s ordeal after Megan was rescued and hospitalized.
The suspects had lengthy criminal records
In 1994, Frankie Brewster was indicted on first degree murder charges, but pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of an 84-year old woman. In March of this year, her son Bobby Brewster, was charged with brandishing a deadly weapon. Last year he was charged with battery on a police officer.
Combs' criminal history includes a malicious wounding charge in 2006.
Messer has several domestic violence charges, including second offense domestic assault and burglary.
Karen Burton and her daughter Alisha have also been arrested on numerous occasions. Karen Burton has been charged with assault on a police officer. Her daughter was charged with domestic assault in May.
