Suspect has been caught.
GOLDTOWN -- Kenna Elementary School in Jackson County was on lock down Monday while police searched the area near the school for a suspect in a domestic disturbance.
Police in Jackson County arrested Michael Wayne James in connection with the dispute.
James was arrested earlier that morning, but was able to escape from the back seat of a Jackson County deputy sheriff's cruiser, police said.
After he escaped, police said he went to a nearby barn, stole firearms and ammunition, and was able to free himself from the hand restraints.
James, 29, was later caught walking on Interstate 79 near the Goldtown exit. Police said he was spotted by a passing motorists.
He was charged with breaking and entering, burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Police said the students on lock down at Kenna Elementary were safe while the search was under way.
Bond was set for James at $75,000 per charge.
