RIPLEY -- A 16-year-old girl is dead after flipping her truck off a bridge and into a creek Monday night.
When Brandon Hall arrived at the scene, he didn't know it was a friend in need.
"When I pulled up I noticed her Dad's truck and found out it was her later," Hall said Tuesday.
Jacklyn Bower died when Ripley police say she lost control of the truck she was driving and landed in Mill Creek.
Her body was found about a quarter of a mile upstream from the crash. She was revived but later died at a local hospital.
Ripley police say several witnesses tell them the teen was driving very fast as she left Wal-Mart and did not stop for a stop sign.
She received her license just one week ago.
Kimberly Durst said Bower was like a sister and was excited to have her license.
"When she smiled the whole room lit up," Durst said of her friend. "It's really hard, really unbelievable that something would happen to her. She was always there for somebody why would something like that happen to somebody that was that good of a person."
Both Durst and Hall say Bower fought with someone at Wal-Mart and left driving angrily.
Many Ripley High schools students did not know of the fatal accident until classes began Tuesday.
"I couldn't believe it. It's still hard to believe," said Principal Todd Layhew. Layhew says the sophomore spoke to him daily, inquiring about his well being.
On Tuesday, a crisis intervention team helps students grieve for the teen who often comforted others.
Ripley Police say wet conditions and speed contributed to the fatal accident.
Casto Funeral Home in Evans is handling the funeral arrangements.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Bower's funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church.
