CHARLESTON -- A West Virginia organization is jumping on board to endorse a controversial bill.

The Farm Bureau has added their name on to the supporters of Delegate Craig Blair's drug testing bill. The bill would randomly drug test those on public assistance. That includes welfare, unemployment and what was formerly food stamps.

"Our members are taxpayers and they are tired of seeing their tax dollars go for things that should not be subsidized by the taxpayers," explained Joan Harman, the Director of Public Relations for the Farm Bureau.

Blair says the bill is currently in judiciary and he's not sure when they'll know if the bill will hit the floor.

Bravo for drug testing welfare recipients. They should also be prosecuted for fraud if found gambling in a casino.

How about this: If anyone on Welfare is arrested for drug offenses, they be charged Federal instead of Local or State, being the Federal Gov't funds it all. They do it to those living in Federal Subsidized Housing, if they are caught or allow, any type of drug activity within their homes, that we pay for with our tax monies.

Seems the good Del. and everyone else is failing to remember that unemployment benefits are the result of the employer and the employee paying into them. Therefore, it is an insurance benefit and does not fall into the same class as public assistance. Unemployment compensation should not be included in the bill. It would set bad judicial precedence for the future, especially with the judicial system in the shape that it is.

Where I would agree that tax payers are tired of tax dollars being spent unwisely, I also have to agree with the previous comment. How can anyone justify setting one group aside by saying it is against thier constitutional rights to be drug tested and setting another group aside and saying it is not againt their rights. I am not on public assistance but I do send my children to a public school, and I expect that my child be safe there in every given way. If that involves grug testing, than so be it. If a county or state worker has nothing to hide, they would agree to be tested. Doctor prescribed medications are not what we are concerned about.

I would be for random drug testing if not for the tax payers $ going towards part of the school teachers salaries. The teachers are bent out of shape over the possibility of them being required to have drug tests and they're fighting it and it's not all over the news. The tax payers $ is also being wasted through the Medicaid program. There are only certain tests and procedures that state sponsored insurance covers and physicians try to get by with the bare minimum. This callous way of treating a patient like a cut in pay, more often than not, leads to at least 2 more visits for the patient to receive quality care that they should have received from the beginning.
