HUNTINGTON -- Mrs. Mary Arthur's 5th grade class at Meadows Elementary School in Huntington recently created a "Mini Society."
The students named their made-up society "Yixagurpletonn Town."
The students wrapped up the two-week lesson Thursday with an auction.
The students used "yixa dollars" to bid on a variety of prizes.
"I learned supply and demand," said 5th grade student Megan Robinson.
"It's going to show me more respect for my mother because she has to work for her money," added classmate Aaryn Johnson.
"They each had to create their own job in the classroom, and they each had to run it for four days and they were responsible for utilities and taxes and all sorts of things," said Teacher Mrs. Arthur.
Former NFL player Troy Brown served as the auctioneer for his son's class.
"I'm the kind of person that learns better hands-on too, so I just through it was a great idea," said Brown.
Some of the prizes included signed Troy Brown memorabilia, certificates to local businesses and the opportunity to become Huntington's Mayor for a day.
"The mayor must be very passionate, so I think this will be a very good experience," said Johnson, who payed 650 "yixa dollars" for the coveted opportunity.
Organizers say they hope the lessons learned from this activity are far reaching.
