CABELL CO. -- School officials are faced everyday with the challenge of securing buildings while maintaining a proper place to learn.
Huntington and Cabell Midland High Schools in Cabell County now utilize security personnel and gates to control access to schools. Doors at all buildings are now locked and equipped with security cameras at main entrances.
The county is also in the process of mapping all buildings to allow first responders up to date information in case something goes wrong.
The mapping of facilities in the county should be complete by September of this year.
One of the new schools in Cabell County has added additional safety measures. The new Barboursville Middle School currently uses the video security at the main entrance to the building but once inside, visitors have limited access to the rest of the building.
Doors remain locked until clearance to the rest of the building is granted by the office staff.
Even in the building, visitors are monitored by one of 48 video cameras and school personnel.
