HUNTINGTON -- The lessons in healthy eating start at an early age in West Virginia.
Students at Hite-Saunders Elementary School in Cabell County get a fresh fruit or veggie snack every afternoon.
It's all part of a pilot grant program through the state.
Students sample the fruit or veggie of the day and learn all about it in the classroom.
Teachers say it exposes children to new and exotic foods and gives them a healthy snack option.
"I've tried a grapple, cumquat, I've tried some pluots, which are really tangy," said 4th grade student, Kaleb Weekley.
Only a few schools in the state were chosen this year to receive the grant program.
More schools are expected to be eligible next year.
