PRICHARD -- Some Wayne County school children are learning about healthy lifestyles and staying in shape.
The fourth and fifth graders at Prichard Elementary School took part in the school's 20th Annual Fun Run and Walk. The students could run or walk around the area near the school. Each student received a trophy. The fitness program was started two decades ago, because of increasing concerns of childhood obesity. "It's something we do to try and get the kids physically fit. All they want to do anymore is sit on the couch and play video games. We try to show them that getting outside and doing a few things is fun," said Bambie Cyrus, Prichard Elementary Principal.
As part of the 20th year for the event, the school invited alumni to participate in Friday's event.
