Tri-State runners compete in Huntington Saturday morning
By Shane Irwin
HUNGTINGTON -- The WV 5K Championship Run/Walk hit the streets Saturday morning in Huntington. More than 560 runners registered for the race, which began and ended on Veterans Memorial Boulevard. Organizers say it's a great way to stay healthy, and reverse some stereotypes.
"This is good that we're promoting fitness and getting everybody out here," Pat Riley, WV 5K Championship Director, said. "And hopefully we can debunk the myth that we are the fattest city in the nation, and we can hand that off to someone else. That's the goal of this."
Ravenswood native Andrew Binford won the race in a time of 14 minutes and 52 seconds. Next year organizers are hoping to get more than 1,000 runners registered.
