Washington Street is becoming a public art gallery as banners featuring work from 30 local artists adorn streetscape lamps, adding a stroke of beauty to several blocks on the East End
CHARLESTON, WV -- StreetWorks is a project of East End Main Street, which is hosting a public art auction – featuring the displayed artwork – beginning at 5 p.m. June 21 at the 400 block of Elizabeth Street and Bluegrass Kitchen. The event is part of FestivALL.
“This is a chance to take home a piece of East End art history,” said Ric Cavender, program director. “The banners, meanwhile, help build a more vibrant community. We are working to make art and culture in Charleston a little more visible. It’s an interesting, attractive touch for the East End.”
The banners should stay up for at least a year, Cavender said.
Local musical talent will be showcased inside and on the street.
The auction runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A party follows. The cost in advance is $20. Admission is $25 at the door. Visit www.CharlestonAreaAlliance.org/Events to register. Admission includes wine, cheese and hors d’oeuvres.
