Woman Appears in Court for Hospital Murder

Trial date set at arraignment

CHARLESTON --  A woman who police say murdered her estranged husband inside a Charleston hospital was in court Thursday morning.

Rhonda Stewart, 53, of Elkview was arraigned in Kanawha County Circuit Court for first degree murder.

Police say Stewart Shot her husband Sammy Lee Stewart, 56, in the intensive care unit at CAMC Memorial Hospital on June 13.

Stewart remained silent at the arraignment and her attorney asked the court to enter a not guilty plea on her behalf.

Judge Tod Kaufman set a trial date of September 8 at 9 a.m.
