HUNTINGTON -- West Virginia State Treasurer John Perdue launched the 3rd Annual When I Grow Up essay contest Thursday at Kellogg Elementary School in Huntington.
Elementary School students around the state are eligible to enter and describe their goals in a 100 word essay.
They will have the chance to win $500 to $5,000 toward a SMART529 college savings scholarship.
"We have so many kids falling through the cracks in WV that don't get an opportunity to go to collect and I hope this will break that ice and really help those kids be able to get that college education," said Perdue.
The deadline to submit an entry is November 9.
