KERMIT -- Authorities in Mingo County have made an arrest in the death of a young mother.
According to jail records, Roger Stroud, 39, was booked on felony charges early Wednesday. Stroud is charged with first degree murder and concealment of a body.
The body of his estranged wife, Michelle Stroud, was found off of Route 53 in the Newsome Ridge area Tuesday afternoon.
Stroud's body was found in an abandoned deep freezer in a remote area near Kermit Tuesday afternoon. Preliminary indications show that she was shot to death.
Authorities say her husband admitted to killing her during police questioning.
According to family members, her uncle discovered her body. He and several others were a part of a search team effort.
The family of Michelle Stroud said she was in the process of divorcing Roger Stroud.
Michelle Stroud, 30, was last seen Monday morning when she took her son to school. After family members grew increasingly worried when Michelle didn't bring her 7-year old son Braxton his lunch, they went looking for her.
The victim had worked at the Mingo County Sheriff's Department. Her most recent place of employment was the Mingo County Health Department.
Tuesday evening, family and friends remained gathered together in the parking lot where Michelle's abandoned car had been located Monday night.
While they have confirmed what's happened Tuesday afternoon, they are not releasing any further information at this time.
Roger Stroud is in the Southwestern Regional jail.
