HUNTINGTON -- Cabell County Schools is pleased to announce the West Virginia School Building Authority (SBA) has awarded the Enslow/Beverly Hills Middle School consolidation project a “Green School” designation. The new school, to be constructed on the former University Heights property along Route 60 in Huntington, will be only the second green school in the state and the only green school locally.
The green school designation will help secure additional funding from the SBA (amount to be determined) to enable the district to employ the latest eco-friendly practices in construction of the facility. The school will then serve as a learning laboratory to teach students and citizens about their impact on the environment.
“This is great news for Cabell County,” says Michael O’Dell, Assistant Superintendent over Operations for Cabell County Schools. “Not only will we have a showcase school that completes the replacement of outdated facilities for all our middle schools, but we also will have a facility where our school population will become more aware of the importance of conservation and wise use of resources. A big thank you goes to the SBA.”
Mr. O’Dell’s goal for the project is that it will meet specifications to qualify it for LEED Silver Designation.
