ST. ALBANS -- A traffic stop in St. Albans turned into something more Friday.
According to St. Albans Police, Patrolman Philip Bass pulled over a car for speeding on U.S. 60 around 9 p.m.
After smelling marijuana, Bass searched the vehicle and located a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm pistol behind a fold-down rear seat.
The passenger, Shawn Price, 20, of Dunbar, said the gun was his, police said.
Price told police he got it for protection after he was recently robbed, but a check of NCIC revealed the gun was stolen in Raleigh, N.C. in October 2000.
The passenger was arrested for Transferring/Receiving Stolen Property and Carrying a Concealed Firearm.
The driver was cited and released.
