MORGANTOWN -- The WVU Mountaineer Rebecca Durst and Marshall's mascot "Marco" the Bison, Trey Barker, go way back.
"Most of my kindergarten memories consisted of being with Rebecca," said Barker, "And at some point or another after that she went to a different grade school and we met up again in middle school and got to be closer friends again.
"Toward the end of our high school career we really grew close and we've been through a lot together," said Barker.
Both Durst and Barker were voted most active in their graduating class at Point Pleasant High School in 2007 and they said the Friends of Coal Bowl is a friendly spirited game.
"It's a lot like sibling rivalry because we've been friends for so long we're like brother and sister now," said Durst.
"It's a great thing for the state too because that's a lot like what our schools are like too. It kinda embodies the competition we share between schools," said Durst.
Durst and Barker said even though they are cheering for opposite teams the rivalry will not get in the way of their friendship.
