CHARLESTON -- A press conference was held Thursday morning in conjunction with National Adoption Month to promote awareness that thousands of children across the country need a loving home.
Some families do not adopt because they believe that the legal process will take too long and many believe it's too expensive.
"Adopting a child doesn't have to be expensive. Financial assistance does not end when the adoption is final. Many families who adopt foster children are eligible for federal or state subsidies", said Chief Justice Brent Benjamin.
More than 4,000 children are in foster care in West Virginia. Of those 4,000 children, 1,000 are eligible for adoption.
