CHARLESTON -- The West Virginia House of Delegates has given thumbs up to keeping West Virginia's gas tax at 32.2 cents a gallon.

Since the state maintains about 90 percent of roadways, supporters maintain this is the only way to insure the state can continue doing that.

Some of the tax had been scheduled to lower in the coming years. Opponents say the vote is a tax increase for West Virginians, and there are other ways to fund road maintenance without a gas tax.

During the General Session in January, House Minority Leader Tim Armstead (R-Kanawha) said he plans to introduce legislation to break the tie between the gas tax and road maintenance as spelled out in the state constitution.

The Senate is expected to consider the bill Friday afternoon.

Now, now fellas. Calm down. That gas tax money does go for a good cause. It helps Gov. Manchin pay for his luxury yacht in the Gulf of Mexico. Stay calm, and pay up, please.

well...you COULD look over on country club road where they're installing a left turn lane from locust onto country club. of course, the left turn lane actually NEEDED was from country club onto 19 (heading for monongah) but hey...why not waste a little MORE money. obviously the 'highway to a dead town' wasn't enough of a waste. add to the the FOOLS they've got over there directing traffic!!!! just their measly pays is a waste of tax dollars.
