LOGAN -- The need to feed a drug habit appears to be the motivation behind several crimes in the Logan County area.
According to the West Virginia State Police, the region has seen an increase in daytime burglaries and other theft related crimes.
Residents say they are nervous.
Law enforcement officers say drug addiction is a challenging obstacle.
"Illegal drug activity is a problem everywhere not just in Logan County," said Trooper J.K. Harris with the West Virginia State Police. "But I would say that in southern West Virginia our most frequent problem is any type of controlled substance specifically the abuse of prescription pain medication."
Many communities in Logan County have formed their own neighborhood crime watch groups.
