CHARLESTON -- It started out as an idea to help pet owners survive in a challenging economy without having to give up their four legged friends.
Now the East End Pet Food Pantry is really catching on. So much so that the shelves are almost bare.
The pantry is housed in the Book Exchange on Charleston's East End.
Pet owners struggling to feed their animals stop by on a daily basis to pick up supplies.
Donations from those who are more fortunate are coming in as well, but not quickly enough to meet the demand.
"It is my wife who heard about it," said Pete Slicer, as he donated a bag of cat food to the pantry. "Dogs and cats, they've got to eat too."
The pantry is in need of both dog and cat food. They also need things like kitty litter and treats.
If you would like to make a donation bring it by the Book Exchange on Washington Street East in Charleston next to the dog park.
