Teays Valley -- The Putnam County Health Department is getting ready for a "MOCK" disaster drill. Six other counties and the state will participate. Health officials will operate under an "anthrax-based scare" -- for the purpose of seeing how quickly and efficiently they can get medicines to those who need it. The event will be held Friday morning at Hurricane High School -- to show county residents that health officials can handle these types of disaster scenarios.
"We are ready. We've been planning for several years for this. We've written various plans and attended various training, but now this is the first time we can actually exercise it ourselves," says John Danford, Threat Preparedness Director for the Putnam County Health Department.
Danford says 200 volunteers are needed to serve as patients in the mock drill. If you'd like to help -- call the Putnam County Health Department at 304-757-2541, extension 226. Prizes will be given away after the mock drill.
