CHARLESTON -- Firefighters battled a house fire that quickly spread to a neighboring house Monday on 142 Avon St. on Charleston's West Side Monday evening.
According to the Charleston fire department, at approximately 6:30 p.m. a house caught fire, eventually spreading to the house next door.
Neighbors told WOWKTV.com that this is the third fire on Avon Street in the past two months.
The house where the fire initiated had been boarded up. Neighbors said they suspect arson and the house is expected to be a total loss.
There was no word on the condition of the neighboring house.
The West Virginia Fire Marshal's Office plans to investigate.
