POCA -- A possible hazmat situation has been reported in Putnam County.

Emergency crews were called to the banks of the Kanawha River in Poca Sunday afternoon after a barrel containing a suspicious substance was discovered.

The first calls went out just before 1 p.m. and crews responded to the river, where the barrel was found lying on the riverbank.

The Department of Environmental Protection was called in to clean up the area, and according to Putnam County 911 dispatchers, Poca Police are now investigating.
