A witness states Jimmy Thompson and Michael Shane Thompson had been drinking with James Gillispie when an argument started about stolen prescription drugs.
SOUTH CHARLESTON -- South Charleston Police Detective Joel Gray said they now have both suspects in custody in the murder of James Gillispie.
Jimmy Thompson, 19, was taken into custody just after 9 p.m. Saturday, Gray said. Authorities got into negotiations with several people who knew of Thompson's whereabouts. Thompson then agreed to meet authorities, where he surrendered.
Michael Shane Thompson, 18, is also in custody after his lawyer contacted South Charleston Police and said Michael Thompson wanted to surrender.
The two suspects are not related
Gillispie was found dead at a home on Macon Street in South Charleston Nov. 20 in what was described as a "gruesome scene", according to police.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Michael Shane Thompson both accused teens and a third person were with Gillispie before he was killed.
In the complaint the witness states that they had been drinking with the victim when an argument over stolen prescription drugs broke out.
The witness states he left after he saw Jimmy Thompson punch the victim and that Michael Thompson told the witness the following morning over the phone that they had beat and stabbed the victim to death.
