BEATTYVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky State Police say an eastern Kentucky man has been charged with killing a woman found in a burned out residence. A statement from police says 55-year-old Melvin Slone of Beattyville is charged with murder in the death of 79-year-old Martha Belle Hollar.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A Legislative Research Commission employee who was fired after appearing in a video for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes has been hired into a better-paying state job. Charles Booker has been hired as division director for administrative services in the state Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, where he will be paid $68,500 annually.

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (AP) - Police say the case of a mother and daughter found dead inside a central Kentucky home is being investigated as a double homicide. Kentucky State Police say 48-year-old Kathy Netherland and her 16-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday at their home near Bardstown.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky Derby will have a new track announcer this year.

Veteran announcer Larry Collmus will call the race for the thousands of fans at Churchill Downs and the millions watching on TV.
