DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is offering civilian base workers buyouts ahead of hundreds of possible layoffs this fall. The Dayton Daily News reports workers have until August first to notify base officials if they plan to retire or leave under the buyout incentive.

(AP) - Ohio remains in the middle of the pack when it comes to children's well-being in a foundation's annual report on the issue. The Annie E. Casey Foundation ranks Ohio 24th among the state in its Kids Count report, with the state's best ranking in education areas, at 16th.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Cleveland police say two officers shot and wounded a man overnight after he pointed a gun at them. The two gang unit officers were investigating separate shootings with WEWS-TV reporting the suspect was shot as he pointed a gun at officers while fleeing. A second suspect was also taken into custody.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio State says it has taken in a near-record $404 million in donations over the past 12 months. The Columbus Dispatch reports the total marks an 8-percent increase over the year before, with nearly 74,000 alumni donating over the past year.
