Nicky Walters is a reporter for WOWK-TV.

She is a West Virginia native and loves Appalachian life. Before getting into television Walters worked for Metro News Radio as a reporter/anchor and was part of the morning talk show "The Morning Brew."

Walters became a full time reporter at WOWK-TV in 2005. Since then she has covered several memorable and touching stories. In November 2005 she and WOWK-TV photographer Ben Miles were at the Mason County Animal Shelter when it exploded. The pair were doing a story about the shelter's new heating system. Walters was burned in the explosion. She and Miles put down their camera and microphone to run back in and save as many animals as they could. The plight of homeless animals has been near and dear to Walters her whole life. She volunteers weekly at the Kanawha-Charleston Animal Shelter. She is always looking for pet related stories that can make a difference for the welfare of animals.

After Hurricane Katrina, Walters spent a week in New Orleans traveling with the 130th Airlift Wing of the West Virginia National Guard. While there she saw the devastating impact of the natural disaster and how West Virginia men and women were there to help.

Walters says that what she likes best about reporting is the "real people" she meets when she is out in the field gathering news. As a proudly self proclaimed "West Virginia Girl" she finds it easy to relate to the people she interviews. She knows what its like to live, struggle and thrive in the Wild and Wonderful State.

Walters attended Marshall University and got her broadcast news start working at the campus radio station WMUL-FM. While there she earned several West Virginia Associated Press Association Awards for Radio including Best Feature Reporting and Best Radio Documentary. Under her leadership as News Director WMUL-FM's News Department also receive an Honorable Mention Award for Best News Operation.

Walters was raised in Tornado, West Virginia. She went to Hayes Middle School, Nitro High School. She currently lives in South Charleston with her rescue cats. She also owns two Quarter Horses, Trigger and Star.
