A faculty member at West Virginia University Parkersburg has been named the state's Professor of the Year.

Phil McClung, a psychology professor, received the award from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, according to a news release from the university.

"It is quite an honor to receive this award," McClung said in the news release. "It reflects on the outstanding students I've had through the years."

The Foundation and CASE have joined forces to offer the Professor of the Year awards since 1981, according to the news release. Finalists were chosen by two preliminary panels of judges. The winners were recognized at an awards luncheon and reception in Washington, D.C.
