CHARLESTON, West Virginia -

The first baby of the New Year in Kanawha County was born at 5:16 a.m. on New Year's Day.

Felix Shaw Steele weighed 7 pounds and 12 ounces.

Her parents were surprised that their baby girl was the first born in Kanawha County this year.  They thought the first baby would have been born earlier.

"I'm very pleased and very happy.  I'm glad we got a healthy baby and she is very beautiful so we're very excited," said Jessica Brock, Felix's mother.

Baby Felix joins an older brother and sister when she heads home.
