The 56th annual Kanawha County Spelling Bee began Saturday, Jan. 21 at 10 a.m.
The competition started with 68 spellers, but round after round, they're eliminated or move on to the next, more difficult word.
The competition brought some of the county's best elementary and middle school students to South Charleston High School.
Winners will advance to the regional competition in March.
They also receive a trophy for themselves and one to display at their school.
