Cyclone, W.Va., native Mike Harless is heading to the Olympic boxing trials in London.
The Concord University sophomore who trains in Charleston got the call from USA Boxing recently.
"I'm coming off a big win in Kentucky," he said. "I've been training hard. Mostly one of the most dominate amateurs around so they chose me."
By competing in the trials, Harless has a shot at competing in the 2012 Olympic games.
"I didn't know what to think, I mean we're talking Olympics," he said. "Such an honor to go. Get competition from all over the world, see where I stand, not only around the Tri-State."
Harless, who competes as a heavyweight, studies biology at Concord, he said. He trains at the Dawg House Gym in Charleston.
"It's a pro gym, lot of good pros come in to spar," Harless said. "I come down here just to get the best. It's one of the best gyms in West Virginia."
Harless is the first West Virginians to get the call for the Olympic boxing trials. Although he wants to win, "just to go would be an honor," he said.
