Threat over for Ohio University campus in Athens

The Ohio University campus in Athens, Ohio, was declared safe Friday morning after an armed fugitive was spotted in the area Thursday night.

"As of 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 27, we believe any threat to the campus and community has passed," OU Police Chief Andrew D. Powers said in a news release.

At about 6:10 p.m. Thursday, campus police received information that Billy J. Caudill was in the area of Union and Shafer Streets, the news release states. Police never found Caudill.

Caudill is wanted by the Fairfield County, Ohio, Sheriff's Office in connection with a robbery at Peoples Bank in Carroll, Ohio, according to the news release. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
