It's an annual issue at the West Virginia Legislature, but
for lots of Southern West Virginia drivers, it's a daily
or even twice daily issue.
Legislators are again discussing the possibility of removing tolls on the West
Virginia Turnpike.
A proposed bill that would remove the tolls by Feb. 1 2020 is under consideration by the House of Delegates, but one senator from Fayette
County said he'd like to see it
advance this year.
"It's a regional issue that certainly not all citizens of the state have
to bear, but those of us who frequently travel the West Virginia Turnpike would
like to see that addressed," said state Sen. Bill Laird, D-Fayette.
The bill also would transfer ownership of the Turnpike to the Division of
Highways and prohibit any new bonds from being issued.
