A recent study on the Huntington Fire Department drew a lot of criticism but the city's mayor said Friday there's plenty to be optimistic about.
The study was commissioned by the McGrath Group and it outlined several problems within the ranks, including low morale.
The union said there were dozens of discrepancies in the report, but Mayor Kim Wolfe said Friday that his office is working on fixing the mistakes.
He also said that while there may be problems, he hopes the report is seen as a stepping stone to better days. "Focus on the good things they said. Good, quality firefighters, equipment's good, response times are good. These are good, base quality things that we can build on, and I think it's important that the next chief has a blueprint that they can build on," said Wolfe.
Wolfe also said that he has been meeting with the interim fire chief and the union representative to explore ways to fix some of the deficiencies noted in the report.
