Barry Adkins, 49, of South Point, Ohio, was sentenced Monday to 151 months in prison.

A federal judge issued the sentence for Adkins' conviction on a conspiracy charge to distribute 1000 kilograms or more of marijuana.

Adkins was found guilty by a Huntington, WV, jury in September 2011.  During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that proved Adkins had joined marijuana conspiracy operating in Zanesville and Ironton, Ohio, and Huntington, WV.

Members of the conspiracy testified that from 2007 until 2009, they received approximately 11,000 pounds of marijuana from a Mexican source and sent approximately $10 million in profit back to Mexico.

The case also involved investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Huntington Police Department, Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT), Appalachia HIDTA, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
